Choose the 8W/ft cable if you want a stronger, heavier-duty plug-in roof heating cable for more demanding winter conditions.

Choose the bulk cut-to-length cable if you need a professional custom-length system, 120V/240V options, 5W/8W options, or a contractor-grade installation.

These cables are designed mainly to prevent ice dams and keep meltwater drainage paths open. They are not intended to remove large existing ice dams or clear heavy snow already on the roof.

For best results, install the cable before severe winter weather and operate it during ice-forming conditions.

Measure the full path where the cable needs to run, including:
• Roof edge zigzag pattern
• Gutter length
• Downspout height
• Valleys or problem areas
• Extra routing to reach the power source

If the cable is slightly long, you may be able to increase the zigzag height, extend the cable through the gutter, or route more cable into the downspout.

If the cable is too short, some areas may remain unprotected.

For ready-to-use plug-in roof de-icing cables, we do not recommend cutting the cable. Cutting requires correct termination and waterproof sealing.

If you need exact custom lengths, choose the bulk cut-to-length heating cable and purchase the correct connection and end seal kits.

Bulk cable is designed to be cut and terminated by qualified installers or experienced users.

Yes. Self-regulating heating cables can touch or overlap themselves when installed properly because they adjust heat output as temperature changes.
