Self-Regulating Roof & Gutter De-Icing Cable Kit with Clips and Spacers
YeloDeer 6W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable Kit is a ready-to-use roof and gutter de-icing cable designed to help prevent ice dams, frozen gutters, and blocked downspouts during winter.
This basic roof de-icing kit is ideal for homeowners who want a simple, practical, and cost-effective way to protect roof edges, gutters, downspouts, overhangs, valleys, and other ice-prone areas from freeze-thaw damage.
The cable uses self-regulating heating technology, which automatically adjusts heat output based on surrounding temperature. It produces more heat in colder conditions and reduces output as temperatures rise.
This kit includes clips and spacers for common roof and gutter installation, making it a convenient choice for standard residential roof de-icing projects.

Important Before You Order
This product is designed to help prevent ice buildup before serious ice dams form. It is not designed to melt large existing ice dams or remove heavy snow already accumulated on the roof.
For best results, install the cable before severe winter conditions arrive.
Use It For Roof edges, gutters, downspouts, eaves, overhangs, valleys, dormers, skylight areas, and preventive residential ice dam protection.
Do Not Use It For Removing large existing ice dams, melting heavy roof snow, indoor heating, in-pipe use, long-term submersion, or custom branch layouts.
Basic Kit vs Other Roof De-Icing Options
Choose This 6W/ft Kit If You need a basic ready-to-use residential roof de-icing cable with clips and spacers included.
Choose 8W/ft or Bulk If You need stronger heating output, a more rugged cable, longer custom runs, or a professional cut-to-length system.
If you need a more rugged cable, higher wattage, or longer size options, consider YeloDeer’s 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable.
If you need a professional cut-to-length system for bulk installation, choose YeloDeer Bulk Self-Regulating Roof & Pipe Heat Trace Cable.
Self-Regulating Does Not Mean Fully Automatic
Self-regulating means the cable adjusts its heat output based on temperature. It does not mean the system automatically turns on and off based on snow or moisture conditions.
For better energy control, we recommend using a roof de-icing controller or suitable outdoor-rated control device. A controller can help activate the system only when winter conditions require heating.

Recommended Applications
YeloDeer 6W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable Kit is designed for common residential roof and gutter de-icing applications.

Always make sure the mounting method is suitable for your specific roof material. Do not damage roofing membranes, shingles, or gutter surfaces during installation.
Basic Kit vs Heavy-Duty Version
Choose This 6W/ft Kit If You need a basic ready-to-use roof de-icing cable, clips and spacers included, standard residential roof edge, gutter, and downspout protection.
Choose the 8W/ft Version If You need a stronger, more rugged cable with higher heating output for more demanding winter roof and gutter applications.
Ready-to-Use Kit vs Bulk Cable
Choose This Kit If You want a ready-to-use 120V cable with included clips and spacers for a standard residential layout.
Choose Bulk Cable If You need long custom runs, professional installation, 120V or 240V options, 5W/ft or 8W/ft options, and separate connection kits.

How to Choose the Right Length
Choose the cable length based on all areas that need a clear meltwater path.
Roof edge length Gutter length Downspout length Valleys or dormer areas Zigzag roof pattern above the eave Extra cable entering gutters or downspouts Distance from starting point to outlet Areas where ice normally forms
Layout Factors
Roof Shape Roof pitch, overhang depth, valleys, dormers, and skylight areas can all affect cable length.
Drainage Layout Gutter length, downspout height, and drain outlet location should be included in the cable path.
Zigzag Pattern Most roof edge installations use a zigzag pattern before routing the cable through gutters and downspouts.
Length Selection Tip
If the cable is too short, some ice-prone sections may remain unprotected. If the cable is slightly longer than needed, you may be able to adjust the zigzag pattern, extend cable through a downspout, or route additional length through the gutter.
For most customers, it is better to select a standard length that closely matches the required layout rather than cutting the cable.
Need a Larger or Custom Project?
If your layout is too long or complicated for a pre-made cable, consider the bulk cut-to-length roof de-icing cable. Bulk cable is better for professional installers, contractors, commercial roofs, and projects requiring exact custom lengths.
Basic Installation Overview
YeloDeer 6W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable Kit is designed for straightforward roof and gutter installation.
- Plan the roof, gutter, and downspout areas that need ice prevention.
- Measure the required cable path before installation.
- Install the cable along the roof edge in a zigzag pattern.
- Secure the cable with the included clips and spacers.
- Route the cable through the gutter to maintain a meltwater path.
- Extend the cable into the downspout when needed.
- Keep the cable positioned so meltwater can flow toward the gutter and drain outlet.
- Plug the cable into a properly protected outdoor-rated outlet.
- Use a roof de-icing controller or suitable control device for better energy management.
Important Installation Notes
Install Before Ice Forms Install before ice dams form. Do not rely on the cable to remove large existing ice dams.
Protect the Roof Do not install over unstable or damaged roofing. Do not damage shingles, membranes, or gutter surfaces.
Avoid Sharp Fasteners Do not use sharp fasteners that may damage the cable jacket.
Protect Connections Do not allow the plug, outlet, or extension cord connection to sit in standing water.
Avoid Damage Areas Do not route the cable where it may be crushed, cut, abraded, stepped on, or damaged by tools.
Use Professional Help Consult a qualified installer if your roof is steep, high, complex, or difficult to access.
Using Clips and Spacers
Roof Clips Help hold the cable in place along roof edges and ice-prone areas.
Spacers Help maintain cable positioning and prevent the cable from bunching together.
Drainage Path Keep the cable positioned so meltwater can move toward the gutter and downspout.
Using a Roof De-Icing Controller
Although this cable is self-regulating, a controller is recommended for improved energy efficiency.
A roof de-icing controller can help reduce unnecessary operating time, activate the system during ice-forming conditions, improve seasonal convenience, reduce manual plugging and unplugging, and help manage temperature and moisture conditions.
