Do not select cable length using gutter length alone. The heating cable may need additional length for the roof-edge zigzag pattern, transitions, gutters, and downspouts.

Basic Installation Sequence

Inspect the roof, gutters, downspouts, heating cable, clips, spacers, and power cord.
Identify the areas where meltwater repeatedly freezes or drainage becomes blocked.
Measure the complete cable route before selecting or installing the cable.
Clear leaves and debris from the gutter and drainage path.
Position the cable along the roof edge in the required zigzag layout.
Secure the cable with the included roof clips.
Use the included spacers to maintain cable position where required.
Continue the heating cable through the gutter.
Extend the cable into the downspout where required to maintain drainage.
Keep the cable away from sharp edges and damaging fasteners.
Connect to a suitable protected outdoor 120V power source.

Yes. Basic roof clips and cable spacers are included. The quantity depends on the selected cable length, so most standard residential installations do not require a separate clip purchase.

How is this different from the 8W/ft YeloDeer roof heat cable?

This 6W/ft kit uses a thinner cable and includes basic clips and spacers. The 8W/ft heavy-duty version has higher output, a thicker cable body, longer finished-length options, and uses larger full-size roof clips sold separately.

Does self-regulating roof heat tape turn itself on and off?

No. Self-regulating means the cable changes heat output as temperature changes while it is energized. It does not automatically detect snow or moisture. Add a compatible roof de-icing controller if automatic winter operation is preferred.

Can I cut the cable if the selected length is too long?

Cutting a factory-finished cable is not recommended for normal installation. Select the closest finished length and adjust the approved roof, gutter, or downspout routing as needed. Use a bulk cut-to-length system when exact custom lengths are required.
