If it's not too much trouble, the best option is to unwrap and rewrap the cable, ensuring the wraps are slightly denser to fully utilize the remaining heating cable. This maximizes the efficiency of the heat produced.

A simpler option is to wrap the leftover cable back around the end section; overlapping is not a concern since our heating cable is self-regulating. This will generate additional heat, causing the cable to sense the increased temperature and lower its output power.

The final option is to cut off the excess cable. If you choose this method, make sure to seal the cut end with a waterproof end cap to prevent water ingress.

Please note that cutting should only be done with self-regulating heating cables. Constant Wattage cables should NOT be cut.

Self-regulating cables adjust their power output with temperature, but they are always on and constantly consuming energy. A controller only activates the system when heating is truly needed, based on sensors, which helps save significant energy.

  • Can the cable be used in an enclosed wall. Is it safe to do so?

    First, to clarify, an "enclosed wall" refers to a wall cavity sealed off by materials like plasterboard or drywall, with little to no air circulation. This type of environment has poor heat dissipation due to the lack of airflow.


    Regarding your question about our self-regulating heating cable: it is primarily designed for pipe freeze protection by wrapping around pipes. Its core feature is that it automatically adjusts its heating power based on ambient temperature, so it generally does not overheat. The maximum surface temperature remains stable at approximately 55°C.


    As for whether wall panels can withstand this temperature: Common indoor wall materials like plasterboard and drywall typically have a heat resistance of over 60°C, so our cable’s 55°C surface temperature is usually within their tolerance range.


    That said, heat resistance can vary between different manufacturers and product specifications.


    We have had a small number of customers use the cable in enclosed walls, and so far there have been no reported issues.
