Overview
Digital Plug-In Thermostat for Heating Control with 6.6ft Sensor Probe
YeloDeer Digital Plug-In Thermostat with Timer is a simple plug-in temperature controller designed for heating applications. It helps turn connected heating equipment on and off based on the temperature measured by the external sensor probe.
This thermostat is ideal for pipe freeze protection, pipe heat tape control, greenhouse heating, reptile enclosures, seedling heat mats, fermentation, incubators, pet warming pads, oil drum heaters, and other heating devices that need temperature-based control.
Instead of leaving your heating equipment running all the time, this controller helps power the connected device only when heating is needed.

How Heating Control Works
This thermostat uses the external sensor probe to detect temperature.
When the sensed temperature drops below the set heating point, the thermostat powers the connected heating device.
When the temperature rises above the stop point based on your differential or upper-limit setting, the thermostat stops powering the device.
This helps keep the heating device from running continuously.
Understanding the Timer
The 0–10 hour timer can be used when you want controlled runtime instead of continuous operation.
This can be useful for:
• Temporary heating
• Controlled warming cycles
• Fermentation
• Greenhouse heating periods
• Pet or reptile heating schedules
• Workshop equipment runtime control
Probe Placement
The sensor probe should be placed where you want the thermostat to measure temperature.
For pipe freeze protection, place the probe near the pipe or coldest area that represents the freeze risk.
For reptile, greenhouse, or incubator use, place the probe near the target temperature zone, not directly against the heating element.
Load Selection Reminder
Before connecting any heating device, confirm its wattage and current draw.
Do not exceed 10A / 1200W.
If your heating equipment exceeds the rated load, do not use it with this thermostat.
Installation & Accessories
Basic Setup Overview
YeloDeer Digital Plug-In Thermostat is designed for simple plug-in installation.
Typical setup steps:
- Plug the thermostat into a 110–120V outlet.
- Plug the heating device into the thermostat outlet.
- Place the 6.6 ft sensor probe in the target temperature area.
- Set the desired temperature.
- Adjust the temperature differential or upper limit if needed.
- Set the timer if timed operation is required.
- Confirm that the heating device turns on and off as expected.
Pipe Freeze Protection Setup
For pipe heat tape or heating cable control:
- Install the heating cable on the pipe according to the cable instructions.
- Place the thermostat probe near the pipe or coldest exposed area.
- Keep the probe protected but able to sense the pipe environment.
- Plug the heating cable into the thermostat outlet.
- Set the desired freeze protection temperature.
- Add pipe insulation if needed.
- Check operation before severe winter weather.
Important Installation Notes
• Use only with heating devices within the rated load.
• Keep the controller dry.
• Do not place the controller or outlet connection in standing water.
• Do not use with compressors, air conditioners, or refrigeration equipment.
• Do not use with damaged cords or plugs.
• Do not place the probe directly on a heating element unless the application requires it and the temperature is safe.
• Do not exceed 10A / 1200W.
• Always follow the connected equipment’s instructions.
Using the Probe Correctly
Correct probe placement is very important.
Poor probe placement may cause the heater to turn on or off too early, too late, or too frequently.
For best results:
• Place the probe near the area you want to control
• Keep it away from direct drafts unless controlling air temperature
• Avoid placing it directly against hot heating elements
• Secure it so it does not move during use
• Calibrate the sensor if the reading needs adjustment
Using with YeloDeer Heating Products
This thermostat can be used with selected YeloDeer heating products when the load is within the controller rating, especially heating cables without built-in temperature control.
For pipe heat cable applications, it is especially helpful when paired with YeloDeer yellow no-thermostat self-regulating pipe heat cable.
FAQ & Resources
Additional Product Questions
1. Is this thermostat for heating or cooling?
This model is for heating control. It powers the connected heating device when the sensed temperature is too low and stops powering it after the temperature rises according to your settings.
For cooling fan control, choose YeloDeer Digital Cooling Thermostat Outlet.
2. Can I use this with pipe heat tape?
Yes. This thermostat can be used with compatible plug-in pipe heat tape or heating cable within the rated load. It is especially useful for heating cables that do not have a built-in thermostat.
3. Can I use it with YeloDeer yellow pipe heat cable?
Yes. YeloDeer yellow pipe heat cable does not have a built-in thermostat, so pairing it with this thermostat is a good choice if you want automatic temperature-based on/off control.
4. Can I use it with YeloDeer blue pipe heat cable?
The blue pipe heat cable already has a built-in thermostat. In most cases, you do not need an additional thermostat.
If you use two thermostats together, the heating cable will only run when both control conditions allow power.
5. Can I set it to turn on below 38°F and off around 40°F?
Yes, you can use the adjustable upper limit / differential setting to create a narrow on/off range. For example, if the controller turns on around 37°F and you set the upper limit to about +3°F, it can stop heating around 40°F. Settings may vary depending on probe placement and actual conditions.
6. What is forced heating mode?
Forced heating mode temporarily powers the connected heating device manually. This can be useful for testing, emergency freeze protection, or sensor-related troubleshooting.
7. Do I need to calibrate the probe?
Usually no, but calibration is helpful if the displayed temperature differs from a trusted thermometer. Sensor calibration lets you fine-tune the reading for your setup.
8. Can I use it outdoors?
The controller itself should be kept dry and protected. For outdoor pipe freeze protection, place the controller and outlet connection inside a weather-protected area or weatherproof enclosure.
Do not allow the controller, plug, or outlet connection to sit in rain, snow, or standing water.
9. Can I use it with a space heater?
Only if the heater is within the rated load and is safe for thermostat-controlled cycling.
Many space heaters exceed small thermostat outlet ratings or have their own safety controls. Check the heater specifications carefully before use.
10. Can I use this thermostat for aquariums or reptile tanks?
It can be used with compatible heating devices such as reptile heat mats, aquarium heaters, terrarium heaters, or pet warming pads within the rated load.
Always make sure the probe is placed correctly and the setup is safe for animals.
11. Why does the heater turn on and off frequently?
Frequent cycling may happen if:
• The temperature differential is set too narrow
• The probe is too close to the heating element
• The probe is exposed to drafts
• The heating device is too powerful for the space
• The controlled area changes temperature quickly
Adjust the probe location or differential setting to improve stability.
