Heavy-Duty 8W/ft Self-Regulating Roof & Gutter De-Icing Cable
YeloDeer 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable is a stronger, more rugged roof and gutter de-icing cable designed for customers who need higher heating output and a more durable cable structure than a basic roof de-icing kit.
This product is ideal for roof edges, gutters, downspouts, metal roofs, asphalt roofs, valleys, dormer areas, skylight areas, and exposed winter drainage paths where ice dams, icicles, frozen gutters, and blocked downspouts can cause winter drainage problems.
Compared with the 6W/ft basic kit, this 8W/ft version focuses on stronger heating performance, a rugged outdoor cable design, IP67 waterproof construction, a lighted plug, and a thicker cable body for harsh freeze-thaw weather.
Quick Use Snapshot

Important Before You Order
Roof clips and hangers may need to be purchased separately for roof de-icing applications.
This product is not the same as the 6W/ft kit that includes clips and spacers. The 8W/ft version focuses on stronger cable structure and higher output. If your installation requires clips, please add compatible roof clips or hangers.
Use It For Roof edges, gutters, downspouts, valleys, metal roofs, asphalt roofs, exposed drainage paths, and selected external pipe freeze protection projects.
Do Not Use It For Removing large existing ice dams, clearing heavy roof snow, internal pipe use, long-term submersion, custom field wiring, or installations without suitable mounting hardware.
6W Basic Kit vs 8W Heavy-Duty Cable
Choose the 6W/ft Kit If You want a simpler entry-level roof de-icing kit with clips and spacers included for standard residential gutter and downspout protection.
Choose This 8W/ft Cable If You want higher heating output, a thicker cable body, and a more rugged option for harsher outdoor winter conditions.
If you need a basic roof de-icing kit with clips and spacers included, choose YeloDeer 6W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable Kit.
If you need a professional cut-to-length system with 120V/240V and 5W/8W options, choose YeloDeer Bulk Self-Regulating Roof & Pipe Heat Trace Cable.
Self-Regulating Does Not Mean Fully Automatic
Self-regulating heating cable adjusts heat output based on surrounding temperature. It increases output in cold conditions and reduces output when warmer.
However, it does not automatically sense moisture or snow conditions by itself. For better energy management and automatic seasonal operation, we recommend using a roof de-icing controller.

Recommended Applications
YeloDeer 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable is designed for roof and gutter de-icing applications where stronger performance and a more rugged cable are needed.
Roof Edge Areas

Always use appropriate clips or mounting accessories for your roof material. Do not puncture, scratch, or damage roofing surfaces during installation.
Where This 8W Cable Works Best
More Demanding Roof Edges Good for roof edges where ice dams form repeatedly or drainage paths need stronger heating support.
Exposed Gutters & Downspouts Useful for gutters and downspouts that freeze often or are exposed to long winter conditions.
Heavy-Duty Preference Best for customers who prefer a thicker, more rugged cable instead of a basic entry-level kit.

How to Choose the Right Length
Measure the full cable path before ordering.
Roof edge zigzag pattern Gutter length Downspout height Valleys or dormer areas Skylight or ice-prone roof sections Extra routing needed to reach the outlet Additional coverage around problem areas Whether clips or hangers are needed
Typical Roof Layout
Roof Edge Usually installed in a zigzag pattern above the eave to help maintain drainage paths.
Gutter Route through the gutter so meltwater can continue moving toward the downspout.
Downspout Make sure enough cable extends through the downspout to help keep drainage open.
Length Selection Tip
If the cable is slightly longer than needed, you may be able to increase zigzag height along the roof edge, add coverage to a nearby ice-prone area, extend more cable through the gutter, or route additional length through the downspout.
If the cable is too short, do not stretch the layout too far apart. Unprotected areas may still freeze.
Can the Cable Be Cut?
Choose Correct Length For most customers, we recommend selecting the closest factory-made length instead of cutting the cable.
Do Not Cut Casually Do not cut or modify the factory-assembled cable unless you have proper components and termination knowledge.
If you need exact custom lengths, use the bulk cut-to-length roof de-icing cable instead.

Important Installation Notes
Clips May Be Needed Roof clips and hangers may be required and may be sold separately.
Install Early Install before heavy ice or snow buildup occurs.
Avoid Sharp Fasteners Do not use sharp fasteners that may damage the cable jacket.
Protect the Roof Do not install on damaged roof surfaces or use methods that damage roofing materials.
Protect Connections Do not allow the plug, outlet, or extension cord connection to sit in standing water.
Use Professional Help Consult a professional installer for steep, high, metal, or complex roofs.
Using Roof Clips and Hangers
Roof Clips Help secure the cable along roof edges, eaves, valleys, and other ice-prone roof areas.
Downspout Hangers Help position the cable inside downspouts and keep drainage paths open.
Roof-Safe Mounting Choose mounting accessories that match your roof material and do not damage the surface.
Using a Roof De-Icing Controller
A controller is strongly recommended for roof de-icing applications.
A controller can help reduce unnecessary energy use, activate the system only when heating is needed, improve automatic winter operation, reduce manual plugging and unplugging, and better manage temperature and moisture conditions.
