Overview
Heavy-Duty 8W/ft Self-Regulating Roof & Gutter De-Icing Cable
YeloDeer 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable is a stronger, more rugged roof and gutter de-icing cable designed for customers who need more heating output and a more durable cable structure than the basic roof de-icing kit.
This product is ideal for roof edges, gutters, downspouts, metal roofs, asphalt roofs, valleys, and exposed winter drainage areas where ice dams, icicles, and frozen gutters can cause roof leaks, drainage blockage, and structural damage.
Compared with the 6W/ft basic kit, this 8W/ft version is built for heavier-duty use. It offers higher heating output, a rugged design, IP67 waterproof construction, a lighted plug, and a thicker, more durable cable body for harsh freeze-thaw weather.
Key Benefits
• 8W/ft self-regulating heating cable for stronger roof and gutter de-icing
• Heavy-duty and rugged design for harsh winter conditions
• Helps prevent ice dams, frozen gutters, blocked downspouts, and icicles
• Ready-to-use 120V plug-in design
• 6 ft power cold lead with lighted plug
• Self-regulating technology adjusts heat output as temperature changes
• IP67 waterproof design for outdoor winter environments

• Customers who prefer a more rugged cable structure
Important Before You Order
Roof clips and hangers may need to be purchased separately for roof de-icing applications.
This product is not the same as the 6W/ft kit that includes clips and spacers. The 8W/ft version is focused on a stronger cable structure and higher output. If your installation requires clips, please add compatible roof clips or hangers.
This product is ready to plug in, but it is not a custom bulk cable. If you need a professional cut-to-length system with 120V/240V and 5W/8W options, choose YeloDeer Bulk Self-Regulating Roof & Pipe Heat Trace Cable instead.
Self-Regulating Does Not Mean Fully Automatic
Self-regulating heating cable adjusts heat output based on surrounding temperature. It increases output in cold conditions and reduces output when warmer.
However, it does not automatically sense moisture or snow conditions by itself.
For better energy management and automatic seasonal operation, we recommend using a roof de-icing controller.

Applications & Compatibility
Recommended Applications
YeloDeer 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable is designed for roof and gutter de-icing applications where stronger performance and durability are needed.

How to Choose the Right Length
Measure the full cable path before ordering.
Include:
• Roof edge zigzag pattern
• Gutter length
• Downspout height
• Valleys or dormer areas
• Skylight or ice-prone roof sections
• Extra routing needed to reach the outlet
• Additional coverage around problem areas
For roof edge installation, the cable is usually installed in a zigzag pattern above the eave, then routed through the gutter and downspout.
For downspouts, make sure enough cable extends through the downspout to help keep drainage open.
Length Selection Tip
If the cable is slightly longer than needed, you may be able to:
• Increase zigzag height along the roof edge
• Add coverage to a nearby ice-prone area
• Extend more cable through the gutter
• Route additional length through the downspout
If the cable is too short, do not stretch the layout too far apart. Unprotected areas may still freeze.
Can the Cable Be Cut?
For most customers, we do not recommend cutting pre-assembled roof de-icing cables.
If you need exact custom lengths, use the bulk cut-to-length roof de-icing cable instead.
Bulk cable is designed for professional termination with compatible connection kits and end seals.
Installation & Accessories
Basic Installation Overview
YeloDeer 8W/ft Self-Regulating Gutter Heat Trace Cable is designed for roof and gutter installation with suitable clips and hangers.
Typical installation steps:
1. Identify ice-prone roof edges, gutters, and downspouts.
2. Measure the full heating cable path before installation.
3. Plan the zigzag pattern along the roof edge.
4. Install compatible roof clips or hangers.
5. Place the cable along the roof edge, gutter, and downspout.
6. Secure the cable without crushing or damaging it.
7. Keep the cable positioned to maintain a meltwater drainage path.
8. Plug into a properly protected outdoor-rated outlet.
9. Use a roof de-icing controller for better automatic operation and energy savings.
Important Installation Notes
• Roof clips and hangers may be required and may be sold separately.
• Install before heavy ice or snow buildup occurs.
• Do not use sharp fasteners that may damage the cable.
• Do not install on damaged roof surfaces.
• Do not allow the plug or outlet to sit in standing water.
• Do not place the cable where it may be crushed or cut.
• Do not use the cable to remove large existing ice dams.
• Use a GFCI-protected outlet where required.
• Follow local electrical and roof safety requirements.
• Consult a professional installer for steep, high, metal, or complex roofs.
Using Roof Clips and Hangers
Use compatible roof clips and hangers to secure the cable to roof edges, gutters, and downspouts.
The correct clip type depends on your roof surface and installation layout.
For metal roofs, make sure the mounting method is suitable for the panel type and does not damage the finish.
Using a Roof De-Icing Controller
A controller is strongly recommended for roof de-icing applications.
A controller can help:
• Reduce unnecessary energy use
• Activate the system only when heating is needed
• Improve automatic winter operation
• Reduce manual plugging and unplugging
• Better manage temperature and moisture conditions
Related Accessories

FAQ & Resources
Additional Product Questions
1. How is this different from the 6W/ft roof de-icing kit?
This 8W/ft version is the stronger and more rugged option. It has higher heating output, a more heavy-duty design, and is better for demanding winter roof and gutter applications.
The 6W/ft kit is a more basic ready-to-use option and includes clips and spacers.
2. Are roof clips included?
Roof clips and hangers may need to be purchased separately for this product. Please check your selected option and add compatible roof clips if needed.
3. Can this cable be used on metal roofs?
Yes. It can be used on metal roofs, including standing seam metal roofs, when installed with suitable clips and proper spacing.
4. Can this cable be used on asphalt shingles?
Yes. It can be used on asphalt shingle roofs when installed properly with compatible roof clips.
5. Can it be used in gutters and downspouts?
Yes. This product is designed for roof and gutter de-icing, including gutters and downspouts.
6. Can this cable be used for pipe freeze protection?
Yes, it may be used for selected external pipe freeze protection projects when the installation is suitable. However, for normal pipe heating applications, a dedicated pipe heat cable may be easier to install.
7. Can I cut this cable shorter?
For most customers, we do not recommend cutting factory-assembled roof de-icing cables. If you need an exact length, use the bulk cut-to-length version with the correct connection and end seal kit.
8. Do I need a controller?
A controller is recommended for energy savings and automatic operation. Self-regulating cable adjusts output, but a controller helps decide when the system should run.
