How Heating Control Works

Basic Setup

Check the heating device voltage, amperage, and wattage.
Place the 6.6 ft sensor probe where it represents the temperature you actually want to control.
Plug the thermostat into a suitable 110–120V outlet.
Plug the compatible heating device into the thermostat outlet.
Set the desired heating temperature.
Adjust the differential or upper-limit setting if needed.
Set the 0–10 hour timer only when timed operation is desired.
Test at least one complete ON/OFF heating cycle before unattended use.

Probe Placement

Good Placement Place the probe where it represents the pipe, enclosure, container, growing area, or other zone you actually want to control.

Avoid Direct heater contact, unstable drafts, direct sunlight, or another location that does not represent the target temperature.

For Pipe Heat Tape

Attach the sensor near a representative cold section of pipe rather than directly against the heating cable. When appropriate for the heating-cable installation, place the sensor beneath the pipe insulation so it can better represent pipe temperature.

Keep electrical components dry. Do not leave the controller, plug, outlet, or connection exposed to rain, snow, condensation, or standing water.

Is this a digital thermostat with an external probe?

Yes. It includes a 6.6 ft / 2 m external temperature probe so the thermostat can monitor the area you want to control instead of relying on temperature at the outlet.

Is this thermostat for heating or cooling?

Heating only. It turns connected heating equipment on when the sensed temperature becomes too low and turns it off after temperature rises according to your settings.

Can I use it with pipe heat tape?

Yes, with compatible 110–120V plug-in pipe heat tape or heating cable that remains within 10A / 1200W and can safely be controlled by an external thermostat.

What is the difference between this thermostat and the dedicated Pipe Heat Tape Thermostat?

This is the simpler multi-purpose option: 110–120V plug-in operation, 10A / 1200W capacity, a 6.6 ft sensor, and a 0–10 hour timer. The dedicated pipe controller is intended specifically for pipe freeze protection and adds a 15 ft remote sensor, 15A capacity, and 120V plug-in or 208–240V hardwired versions.

Does self-regulating heat tape still need a thermostat?

Not always. Self-regulating cable changes heat output as temperature changes, but it does not necessarily disconnect itself from electrical power. An external thermostat is useful when you want a defined ON/OFF temperature or reduced unnecessary runtime.

What does the 0–10 hour timer do?

The timer can limit how long thermostat-controlled operation remains active when a controlled warming period is preferred instead of continuous thermostat operation.

What is forced heating mode?

Forced heating temporarily powers the connected heating device manually. It can be useful for testing the heater or confirming the system operates before cold weather.

Can I use this with a space heater?

Only if the heater is 110–120V, stays within 10A / 1200W, is approved for external thermostat control, and automatically resumes safe operation when power is switched back on. Many space heaters do not meet all of these conditions.

Simple and easy to use temperature controlled outlet

This digital temperature control outlet works great. I live in an older home that does not have central heating & air conditioning & so I am forced to utilize space heaters during the winter in order to stay warm. I do not feel comfortable leaving space heaters on when I am not at home & so this temperature controlled outlet works great on a day when it's for example 60 degrees in the morning when I leave for work, however during the day if the temperature drops significantly into the 30s then I am able to utilize this outlet with a space heater so that it's not freezing inside when I return home from work. I tested this outlet with one of my space heaters & it seems to work great. The digital temperature controlled outlet comes on once the temperature sensed by the included probe falls below the temperature that is set into the outlet. The temperature can be adjusted anywhere from 34 degrees F to 140 degrees F. The temperature controlled outlet also features a forced mode which enables me to at the simple long press of the power button it will enter a forced heating mode & it will remain on regardless of what the temperature reading is. There are also many convenient features built into this simple outlet such as a timer that enables me to set a timer on how long the plug will provide power at the pre set temperature before it goes off all together once the timer expires. The screen alternates between the home reading & the remaining time on the timer whenever the timer is in use, it's very convenient. This temperature controlled also comes with clear instructions although it is extremely easy to figure out how to use it without the use of the instructions as it is very simple & easy to use. The outlet also comes with a wired probe that can be placed directly near whatever or wherever needs to have the temperature monitored & controlled. Photos are of the plug, its probe and the included suction cup for assisting in placing the probe, of the plug in use powering one of my space heaters & of the plug in the forced heating mode where it displays MA and the heating light on the plug stays on and the heating device plugged in heats constantly. Definitely recommended.
