Self-adhesive does not mean no mortar anywhere. The backing simplifies attachment of the membrane to a suitable substrate. You still need suitable mortar over the membrane and heating cable for the tile or stone installation.

Surface preparation is critical. Dust, moisture, oil, wax, paint, sealer, loose material, or an uneven substrate can reduce adhesive performance.

Self-Adhesive or Thin-Set?

The self-adhesive backing improves installation convenience but does not compensate for poor substrate preparation. Adhesion depends on the actual surface condition.

Installation

Peel and stick membrane for floor heating cable installation

Basic Installation

Prepare a clean, dry, level, stable, and structurally sound substrate.
Remove dust, oil, wax, loose paint, sealer residue, and other contamination.
Plan the cable layout, thermostat location, sensor route, and non-heated areas.
Dry-fit and trim the membrane before removing the release liner.
Peel back the release liner and carefully position the membrane.
Apply firm, even pressure across the full surface to establish adhesion.
Install compatible heating cable in the designated channels.
Install the floor sensor and test cable and sensor resistance.
Apply suitable thin-set mortar over the membrane and heating cable.
Install tile or stone and allow the installation materials to cure before energizing the system.

Plan before peeling the release liner. Correcting layout after full adhesive contact can be more difficult. Dry-fit pieces and verify the floor-heating layout first.
