12V DC Temperature Controller for Refrigerators & Cooling Systems

The YeloDeer STC-201 provides automatic refrigerator temperature control for compatible 12V DC refrigeration systems. It controls cooling by temperature and adds compressor restart delay, automatic or manual defrost, alarms, and an external NTC sensor.

12V DC Only Designed for compatible RV, camper, portable, and custom 12V refrigeration systems.

Cooling Control Automatically starts and stops the cooling output according to set temperature and differential.

Automatic Defrost Separate defrost output with adjustable interval and duration, plus manual defrost.

Compressor Protection Adjustable restart delay helps reduce rapid compressor cycling.

12V DC only. Do not connect this controller to 120V or 240V AC power. It is a low-voltage refrigeration controller, not a household plug-in thermostat.

30A does not mean any 30A compressor can be connected directly. The 30A cooling-relay rating is a resistive-load contact rating. Compressors and motors have startup current and may require a lower working current or an external relay, driver, or other switching device.

How Cooling Control Works

The controller starts cooling when the measured temperature reaches the set temperature plus the selected differential. Cooling stops when the temperature returns to the setpoint.

Example: With a 41°F setpoint and a 3°F differential, cooling starts at approximately 44°F and stops when temperature returns to 41°F.

Relay ratings are not compressor current recommendations. Confirm both normal running current and startup/inrush current before connecting a compressor, motor, fan, solenoid, or other inductive load.

Basic Wiring Sequence

Disconnect all power from the refrigeration system.
Confirm the power source is regulated 12V DC.
Verify compressor, cooling-load, and defrost-load requirements.
Install appropriate fusing and circuit protection.
Mount the controller in a suitable panel or enclosure.
Connect the 12V DC power input with correct polarity.
Connect the compressor or cooling output according to the wiring diagram.
Connect the defrost output only if a compatible defrost load is used.
Connect the NTC sensor.
Secure and insulate all electrical connections.
Restore power and configure the temperature, differential, delay, defrost, and alarm settings.
Test cooling and defrost operation before normal use.

Do not apply AC mains voltage to any terminal. This version is specifically wired for a compatible 12V DC refrigeration system.

Sensor Placement

Do Place the NTC sensor where it represents the refrigerator, freezer, cabinet, or product-zone temperature you want to control.

Do Not Place it directly against the evaporator, compressor, defrost heater, fan outlet, door opening, or another rapidly changing hot or cold source.

FAQ

Is this a 12V refrigerator temperature controller?

Yes. The STC-201 is designed specifically for compatible 12V DC refrigerator, freezer, and refrigeration systems.

Can I use this as an RV refrigerator temperature controller?

Yes, when the RV refrigeration system uses compatible regulated 12V DC power and the compressor, cooling load, defrost load, wiring, and current requirements are suitable.

Can this controller run on both 12V and 120V?

No. This version is 12V DC only. Do not connect it directly to a 120V or 240V AC household circuit.

Does it automatically control refrigerator temperature?

Yes. The cooling output turns on when temperature rises above the selected setpoint by the configured differential and turns off when temperature returns to the setpoint.

Does it include automatic defrost?

Yes. You can configure the automatic defrost interval and duration, disable automatic defrost when appropriate, or start a manual defrost cycle.

Can I connect a 30A refrigerator compressor directly?

Not automatically. The 30A specification is a resistive-load relay rating. Refrigeration compressors are inductive loads and may have substantially higher startup current. Confirm running and startup current and use an external switching device when required.

Why does the compressor not restart immediately?

The adjustable compressor restart delay may be active. This delay helps reduce rapid cycling after the cooling output has stopped.

Can this controller be used as a heating thermostat?

No. The STC-201 is designed around refrigeration and cooling control logic and is not recommended as a general heating thermostat.
